Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances
- Sanford Meisner

Mission Arts Theatre Ensemble (MATEs) provides beginners and experienced performers the opportunity to work together to bring the unique wonder of live theatre to Mission Beach and its environs. All ages, from 10 to 80+, are welcome for onstage as well as backstage roles.

Keen to get involved? MATEs provides a safe space for people at any skill level, with endless opportunities to develop your talents...acting, directing, playwriting, lighting/sound design and engineering, multimedia design, costume design and making, set design and construction, stagehand, stage management, makeup, front of house, publicity & advertising, videography, choreography, and musical direction.

Since its formation in 2019, MATEs has staged a number of successful productions, including Cinderella in LAPetite Salon PiècesPrincess Shelley and the Wicked Witch of the Wild Waters, Aladdin, How Bard Can it Get? and Snow White and the Seven Farmers.

Without being too restrictive, the ensemble's emphasis is on local content created and produced by local people. This includes imaginative retellings, original plays, and light-hearted comedic sketches. With an aim to expand the theatre experience to the young (and young at heart), our family-friendly productions are a core component of our offerings and are very well received with our audiences.

Watch this space for more information about how you can get involved with our major 2025 production Alice’s Aussie Adventures: An Uncommon Nonsense.

We continue to grow and foster our local talent by offering a series of improv classes, script readings and other dramaturgical workshops which are held at the '
The Pineapple Cottage’ at Mission Arts. View dates, times and details below.
