Petite Salon Pièces

The Production

This was the first show MATES performed in the ‘new’ Pineapple Cottage Theatre. As most of our projects up to this time were either comedy or light family entertainment, it was decided it was time to put on the other theatre mask and venture into pathos and drama.

Audiences were asked to step into the intimate world of Petite Salon Pièces, a collection of six poignant and thought-provoking vignettes hosted in the atmospheric setting of the Pineapple Cottage Theatre’s La Cage aux Folles, a transformed 1940s-style nightclub. This production delved deeply into themes of love, loss, and endings.

Presented over three evenings, this production not only showcased the creative talent of the MATES ensemble but also invited the audience into an evocative, theatrical experience that balanced pathos with moments of warmth and reflection. Perfect for lovers of intimate drama, Petite Salon Pièces delivered an unforgettable evening of connection and storytelling.

Synopsis

Petite Salon Pièces is an evocative collection of six dramatic vignettes exploring the universal themes of love, loss, and endings. Each piece stands alone yet contributes to a cohesive narrative tapestry. From the poignant exploration of memory and maternal legacy in Äiti to the heartfelt struggles of individuality in Square Peg, the stories delve deep into the complexities of life. Love at Last offers an intimate portrait of a couple facing life’s final transitions, while You’ll Be the Death of Me and The Demon Sneezed tenderly navigate loss and dementia. The collection concludes with Taxi Home, a meditative tale on finding direction in life.
