Stage 2 Building Programme - Eastern Zone

A series of enhancements in the vicinity of the Pottery Studio have been identified, driven by user needs, and the increasing popularity of our pottery activities.

Reconfigure Pottery Courtyard
[done 2022]

The Pottery Courtyard had been a clutter of tables, steps and handrails. It presented a range of accessibility and safety challenges. Reconfiguration of the courtyard and steps was completed in 2022 with the assistance of a QCF grant. This upgrade delivered additional useable space and benching while addressing the accessibility and safety issues.

Separate kiln shed

A need has been identified to build a separate shed for the kiln, immediately adjacent to the north-east corner of the Pottery Studio. This will prevent the build-up of fumes and corrosion within the Studio, while also enabling interior reconfiguration to provide more space within the Studio itself, for which there is acute demand.

Disabled parking

Some of our potters have a range of infirmities, while also needing to carry heavy clay items. Land adjacent to the north-east corner of the existing Pottery Studio is ideal to meet this immediate need, and to bring disabled parking closer to the entire Mission Arts centre. It is a particularly ideal location for disabled access to the expanded Stage 2 building.

Accessible ramps

The dead space to the north of the Pottery Studio will provide an ideal and direct accessible access to the Stage 2 (Northern Zone) building. Together with the co-located Disabled parking this will provide a new and direct pathway into the Mission Arts complex.

The Mission Arts Cottage also requires accessible ramp access:
